'Chicago' Opens at The Playhouse on Park

As the Playhouse on Park prepares to close out and celebrate the success of its second season, the theater is doing it in style with a popular musical.

"Chicago" the musical, based on the original play of the same name by Maurine Dallas Watkins, is loosely based on the trials of two women accused of murder in the 1920s. The music is by John Kander, lyrics are by Fred Ebb, and the book is by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse.

Darlene Zoller is Director and Choreographer of the Playhouse on Park's performance, and the Musical Director is Colin Britt.

Tracy Flater, Executive Director of Playhouse Theatre Group, Inc., said she is excited to celebrate the theater's second anniversary with a "fantastic musical" like "Chicago.

"The show is selling fabulously, and we couldn't ask for a better anniversary gift than full houses! Even more exciting is that subscriptions are now on sale for season three and we will be announcing that in more detail soon," said Flater. 

Performances are scheduled Wednesday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m. (preview performance); July 14 at 7:30 p.m. (opening night, includes complimentary wine & cheese); Friday, July 15 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, July 16 at 8 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.; Sunday July 17 at 2 p.m. (includes post performance talk back with cast); Thursday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m. (this is a special anniversary celebration for Playhouse on Park and includes a post performance party), Friday, July 22 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, July 23 at 8 p.m. (includes post performance open mic) and Sunday, July 24 at 2 p.m.

Tickets range from $22.50-$32.50 with savings for students, seniors and Let's Go Arts Members. Student rush tickets are available for $10, cash only, 15-minutes prior to curtain. Special performance features include Saturday, July 16, when attendees (must be 18 or older to attend) can BYOB to the 11:30 p.m. show. On July 23 there will be a free open mic Cabaret after the 8 p.m. performance, beginning at about 10 p.m. Singers can bring their own sheet music, or choose a song from ours. Observers are welcome.

On Thursday, July 21 Playhouse on Park will celebrate its second anniversary with a performance of "Chicago" and a post-performance party with the cast, staff and board of directors. This will also serve as a fundraiser for Playhouse on Park. All tickets are $50
