Firefighter Promotion Celebration Includes Sen. Richard Blumenthal

West Hartford welcomed four new firefighters and celebrated 12 promotions at a Town Hall ceremony Friday afternoon.

A packed room full of family, friends, current and retired firefighters, and Town leaders congratulated four new and a dozen promoted members of the West Hartford Fire Department at a ceremony at Town Hall Friday afternoon.

The scale and significance of the ceremony, Interim Chief Gary Allyn said, followed the retirement of several veterans firefighters – with the combined total of 125 years of experience.

"We are adding new members, we are promoting veterans, as we begin a new chapter in our history," said Allyn.

Also on hand was Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who praised West Hartford's "tradition of public service which is reflected in today's service and makes this community such a special and wonderful place to live."

"The profession and the values and traditions that you represent - nothing is more important than safety you bring to our community," Blumenthal said.

A "Certificate of Recognition" from Sen. Blumenthal's office was presented to all who were honored at the ceremony.
