Junior League of Hartford Getting Set for Decorator Show House
Location has been selected, and the fundraiser will kick off with a "Bare Bones" event on March 9.
The Junior League of Hartford (JLH) is pleased to announce the location of its 12th triennial Decorator Show House. Situated in the West End of Hartford, this year’s Show House is the magnificent Wechsler estate, located at 68 Scarborough Street and will be open to the public for viewing in May 2012.
Steeped in Connecticut history, this 7,000 square foot estate was built in 1921 and was home to former Connecticut Senator Alfred Francis Wechsler. The home was designed by notable architectural firm Smith & Bassette and features nearly 25 spaces that will be completely transformed when regional interior designers, decorators and landscape architects reimagine the rooms and gardens of the house as design showcases for public tours May 5 through May 27.
“The Decorator Show House allows us an opportunity to celebrate the wide range of talent and expertise among our region’s interior designers and landscape architects, and invite the community to view a beautiful home while learning more about the Junior League of Hartford,” said Junior League of Hartford President, Wendy Avery.
“The League also shares a very special connection with this home, as the Wechsler estate was built the same year that the Junior League of Hartford was founded. It is exciting to celebrate our 90th Anniversary year with the League’s largest event-based fundraiser.”
The public will have an opportunity to view the home before design work begins at “Bare Bones,” a special event to be held on Friday, March 9 from 7 p.m.–11 p.m at the Show House. Kick-off March-Madness and our upcoming Show House with an evening of hors d’oeuvres, beer, and wine, while watching the college basketball conference Semi-Finals. Admission to “Bare Bones” is $30 per person and may be purchased until March 6, through the Junior League of Hartford website or by sending a check with “Bare Bones” written in the Memo to the JLH office at 993 Farmington Avenue, Suite 208, West Hartford, CT 06107. The event is open to the public.
