Police Arrest Several for Soliciting Without a Permit
Police report several recent incidences of door-to-door salesman operating in West Hartford without permits, and are asking residents to check for solicitor permits.
have charged several door-to-door magazine salesmen for soliciting without a permit.
Police report that they were called to the area of Hartwell Road last Thursday in response to a complaint about solicitors working in the area without permits.
According to police, they located four solicitors in the neighborhood from Urban 1, also known as Urban Nation, a magazine subscription company which, police say, has a long history of complaints with the Better Business Bureau.

Police said the company has been warned on several occasions not to solicit in West Hartford without a permit.
According to police, the driver of the van transporting the solicitors was also cited for driving with a suspended license, and the van was towed from the scene.

Police encourage residents to report any door-to-door solicitors who do not clearly display town solicitor permits.

All were released on $100 cash bond and are scheduled to appear in Hartford Community Court on Sept. 12.
According to police, those West Hartford residents who paid by check had their checks returned to them.
