Van Crashes into Tumblebrook Lane Home

Corner of home so severely damaged that building is uninhabitable.

are investigating an accident in which a Comcast van hit a West Hartford home Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the accident occurred at 1:59 p.m. Tuesday when the van, which was headed west on Tumblebrook Lane toward North Main Street, apparently veered off the road, hit a fence around the property at 99 Tumblebrook, proceeded across the front lawn, and crashed into the corner of the white colonial.

"It appears that the incident was medical in nature," said Lieut. Brancoforte of the West Hartford Police. The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but no further details are available, police said.

The , which also responded to the incident, reported that two occupants were home at the time of the crash – one in the back of the home on the first floor and one in an upstairs bedroom. Neither occupant was injured, the fire department said.

The property was declared "Unsafe" by the West Hartford building inspector, but contractors were already on the scene several hours later shoring up the damaged corner of the home, and indicated that it could be repaired. Fire department personnel secured the homes electrical and gas services, which were also damaged in the incident.

Although the accident apparently did not result from heavy traffic at the busy intersection of Tumblebrook and North Main, neighbor Ivan Narvaez, who lives at 1193 North Main St., said that accidents in the area are very common.

"This corner is very dangerous. There are always problems – accidents once or twice a month," Narvaez said. He was not a witness to this incident.
