West Hartford Little League Wrap-Ups for Week Ending June 5

Game highlights and scores as reported by West Hartford Little League.

MAJORS:

Herb's Angels 3 Feigenbaum & Nair Cardinals 2. Oliver Anderson's two out single in the bottom of the 5th inning plated Michael Bienasz, who led off with a triple, with the winning run as the Angels squeaked out a 3-2 win over the Cardinals Sunday at UCONN. It was a classic pitcher's duel as the Cardinal's Michael Mack and Sean Keating of the Angels kept the bats quiet early. Keating finished with 3 IP, 5K's, 2 hits and 2 runs while reliever and winning pitcher Will Dickinson went 3IP, 0 runs, 2 hits and 4 K's. Mack went 5 1/3 innings with 9 K's, 5 K's and 6 BB's. The Angels offense was led by Bienasz (1-1, 1 run, triple), Anderson (1-2, double, rbi), Adam Giroux (1-1, 1 run), and Nick Levere (2-2).

For the Cardinals, Matt Doyle was 1-1 with a double and a run scored, Elliot Duprey had a beautiful bunt single, and Isais Villalobos and Marvin Prados added singles.

Data Mail Orioles 8 CT Foot & Ankle Braves 5. On Sunday the Data Mail Orioles defeated the CT Foot & Ankle Braves 8 to 5. James Eden continued his stellar pitching this season by keeping the Orioles off the bases for the first 3 innings while the Braves scored 2 in the first on a double by Alex Haggerty. They added 1 in each the second and the third. With the O’s down 4 the Joe Morrisey show started on the mound and at the plate. Morrisey pitched 4 innings giving up 2 runs, 1 hit, and striking out 4. At the plate he cracked 2 hard doubles to the warning track knocking in 3 runs. The Orioles picked up 3 more in the 4th to take the lead and added 1 in the each of the last 2 to secure the lead for Morrisey to finish the game from the hill.

In addition to Morrisey delivering the big blow, the comeback in the 4th was a total team effort. The Orioles never gave up and stayed focused at the plate, on the bases, and in the field. Focus at the plate came from Milo Olson, Tom Newton, & Jack Davis. Heads up base running from Chris Keegan and heads up defense from Mac Reynolds played a big role in the win. Kyle Nichols added a hit for the Braves and scored a run while Matt Berson pitched well in relief.

Retirement Visions Dodgers 4 - Ct Shower & Bath Phillies 3. Prior to the Dodgers and the Phillies regularly scheduled game, they continued the game that was postponed due to darkness tied at 17 after 7 innings. The Dodgers started off with a double by Brooks Clement who then scored on a single by Thomas Zinzarella. The Phillies came right back with a single by Sam Morgan who scored on a single by James Doar. 18-18 after 8. In the 9th, after he pushed across the 2nd run in the top of the inning for the Dodgers with an RBI single, Noah Fox was able to shut down the Phillies in the bottom of the inning to preserve a 20-18 victory for the Dodgers.

The next game was just as close, a 4-3 victory for the Dodgers. Sam Fiske pitched another gem for the Dodgers (5IP,11K) holding the Phillies to 3 runs. After the Dodgers took the lead in the bottom of the 5th, Paul Van Doren got the save holding the Phillies scoreless in the 6th. The Dodgers offense was led by Colby Glidden (2-3, 2B, RBI) and Noah Fox (2-2, 2R).

For the Phillies, Michael Lee (4.2IP, 3K) kept the Dodgers off balance all day, holding them to just 4 runs. The Phillies offense was led by Tyrek Robinson (2-3, 2B, 2R).

TotalVision Eyecare Center A's 8 Murtha Cullina Marlins 1. The TotalVision Eyecare Center A's continued their winning ways with a 8-1 win over the Murtha Cullina Marlins. The A's jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first with a lead off triple by Spencer Altman (1-2, 3B, R) followed by RBI hits by Charlie Lage (1-2, R ,RBI) and Ben Ellovich (1-2, 2RBI's). Also contributing on the hitting side for the A's were Daniel Alpert (1-2, R, 2B), Tyler Knott (1-3, R, 2B) and Connor Blodgett (2-3, R, 2B). The pitching chores were handled by Eli Freilich (4.2IP, R, H, 7K) and Spencer Altman (1.1IP, 0R, H, 2K) who both threw very well. Nice defensve plays were turned in behind Freilich and Altman by Jordan Mogel, Daniel Falkovich and Blodgett.

The Marlins kept the game close early behind the tough pitching of Kevin Puleo. Puleo found defensive help from Ethan Wilkins who played outstanding defense at 2nd and shortstop throughout the game. Puleo (1-3) and Peter Fox (1-1, 2B) were the hitting standouts for the Marlins.

Feigenbaum & Nair Cardinals 5, Kimberly Clark Pirates 4. The Cardinals edged the Pirates 5-4 in a well played and exciting game at Norfeldt Field. The Pirates jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st when Patrick Baron (2BB, 2 1b, 2RS) scored on an RBI single by Joshua Restrepo. The Cards got the run back in the 2nd when Lucas Teodoro hit a booming triple to right field and scored on RBI single by David Gassner. The Cardinals scored 3 runs in the 3rd on consecutive bunt hits by Colman Glagovich, Marvin Prados and Elliot Duprey, an RBI walk by Michael Mack (1-2, 2b, BB) and a 2 run single by Isaias Villalobos (2-2). Matt Doyle scored what proved to be the winning run in the 4th after hitting a double. The Pirates fought back with 2 runs in the 5th and 1 in the 6th, led by a hard hit triple by Connor Swanton (2-3, BB, 1RS) and Pablo Miras-Desimone, who hit a single and scored on a single by Eric Bienstock. Doyle pitched a solid game for the Cards, allowing just 1 run and striking out 6 in 4 innings, while Gassner came in to get out the last Pirates batter with 2 men on to end the game.

CT Foot & Ankle Braves 7 – New Britain Rock Cat Twins 2. It was a perfect night for baseball. The Braves improved to 8-2 on the pitching of Lucas Busch and a relentlessly pesky offense. Busch who threw the complete game, allowed 4 hits and recorded 11 strikeouts. The Braves bats were patient and worked deep into counts and baserunners were aggressive and smart. Braves offense came from Lucas Busch 2-2, Matt Patchen 2-3, James Eden 2-3, Alex Haggerty 1-2, Hunter Polce RBI, and Blake Deresienski RBI. On the defensive side Jonathon Peikes saved a run with a heads up play backing up 3rd base. Making their major league debut for the Twins were: Ryan Druckenmiller, Jack Brockway, and Matt Keller. The players were called up for the night from AAA to fill some gaps in the Twins 12 man roster. The players fit in nicely and looked like they belonged in the Majors. Patrick Okeefe threw well for the Twins going 3 innings and striking out 4. Offense for the Twins came from Grady Brockway 2-2, Nathan Graber Lipperman 1-2 RBI, and Ryan Druckenmiller 1-2.

New Britain Rock Cats Twins 11 CT Bath and Shower Phillies 0. In one of their strongest total team outings of the season, the Twins bested the Phillies by a score of 11-0. Jake Campell led the way with his top pitching performance of the season with a complete game shutout in which he struck out 15 with no walks. Not being satisfied with just contributing on the mound, Campbell also went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI. Colin Kuzia powered the Twins offense with 2 doubles to the fence and 3 RBI (and a few nice defensive plays as well). The Twins also collected 2 hits a piece from Grady Brockway, Nathan Graber-Lipperman, Declan Chill and D.H. Higgins.

Despite the final score, several Phillies had outstanding games in the field. Sam Morgan, Dominic Mongillo and Tyrek Robinson all made sparkling plays to end rallies. As for the offense that the Phillies could muster against Jake, Tyrek Robinson went 2-2 while Sam Morgan, Mike Lee and James Doar all went 1-2.

TotalVision Eyecare Center A's 16 CT Shower & Bath Phillies 0. On what turned out to be a beautiful night at Norfeldt, the TotalVision Eyecare Center A's put together their best effort of the season with a 16-0 win over the CT Shower & Bath Phillies. As has been the norm so far this season the A's pitching and defense was outstanding. In this game the A's pitchers went even a step further by posting a combined no-hitter. Charlie Lage (4IP, 0H, 6K,1 BB), Eli Freilich (1IP, 0H, 2K) and Jordan Mogel (1IP, 0H, 3K) all showed great stuff throughout, throwing tough strikes and consistently getting ahead of the Phillies hitters. The A's also played very good defense with good plays turned in by Connor Blodgett, Tyler Knott and a outstanding play at 2nd by Daniel Falkovich. On the hitting side the A's pounded out 14 hits with Freilich (3-4, R, 2RBI's), Blodgett (2-3, R, 2RBI's), Noah Sobel-Pressman(1-2, R) and Spenecr Altman (2-3, 2R, 3RBI's) all leading the way.

The Phillies battled hard throughout and kept the game close in the early innings. James Doar played a very good all around game. James was on base both times up and was very solid behind the plate. Owen Hendriks also put in two very good at bats against Lage and Freilich with good defensive plays by the A's keeping him from reaching base. The highlight of the game for the Phillies was a sparkling 1-6-3 double play to end the fourth inning. Sam Morgan snagged a hard ground ball off the mound then fed Tyrek Robinson at second who threw a bullet at first to just nip the hustling A's player.

Kimberly Clark Pirates 12 Retirement Visions Dodgers 11. Zach Aldave's walk off hit helps the Kimberly Clark Pirates defeat the Retirement Visions Dodgers in an exciting game at UConn. After the spotting the Dodgers an 11-5 lead the Pirates stromed back in the bottom the 6th to defeat the Dodegrs 12-11. In the bottom of the 6th Patrick Baron (3-3) singled to right. Connor Swanton  (2-3) hit Patrick Baron home with his 3rd HR of the season to center. The Pirates followed with 3walks. The big blast came off the bat of Danny Harris (1-3) who belted a 3 run double to right. Harris scored on a single by Brendan Horan (2-3) who has gotten hot of late. With runners on first and second Zach Aldave hit a base hit between first and second scoring Brendan Horan. The Dodgers were led by the strong pitching of Thomas Zinzarella (5 ip, 8k and 2-3 run scored and an RBI) who kept the Pirates off balance all night. The Dodgers who seemed like everybody hit were led by Sam Fisk (2-4 1b, 3b, 2 runs and 2 rbi), Colby Glidden (2-4 2 runs scored), Paul Van Doren (2-2 2B 2 runs scored 1 RBI) and Dylan Landau (3-3 run scored and 1 RBI). I cannot tell how proud I am of this team who never gave up and just kept on trying and working hard.

Herb's Angels 4 Data Mail Orioles 2. The Herb's Angels came from behind, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 6th for a 4-2 win over the Data Mail Orioles in a well played exciting game at Norfeldt Field. With the Orioles leading 2-1 going into the 6th, Michael Bienasz reached on an error to start the inning for the Angels. Jeff LaRosa (1-3) followed with a single and Adam Giroux reached on an error to load the bases. Andrew Arnheiter walked to drive in the tying run and Will Dickinson reached on a fielder's choice as the Orioles forced the runner at home. The Orioles got the second out as shortstop Celbe Biffinger gunned the potential go ahead run at the plate. Arnheiter later got in a rundown between third and home and scored on some great baserunning for the go ahead run. Sean Keating then singled up the middle to drive in the 4th and final run. Angels starting pitcher Jeff LaRosa went 4 no-hit innings striking out 7 and walking 3, giving up 1 run while  winning pitcher Andrew Arnheiter secured the no-hitter pitching 2 innings striking out 2 and walking 2. Nick Levere was rock solid at 2nd base for the Angels.

For the Orioles, Celbe Biffinger went 4 solid innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 6. Bryce Dellabianca and Joe Morrisey scored the runs for the Orioles.

CT Foot & Ankle Braves 5 – Retirement Vision LLC Dodgers 0. James Eden was brilliant on the mound, throwing a 1 hitter, with 13 strikeouts, and 1 walk, and just one batter shy of a complete game shutout, leading the Braves to their 7th victory. Eden has improved his pitching dramatically experimenting with some off-speed pitches and locating his fastball with precision. Kyle Nichols notched the save on one pitch, a ground ball to Jonathon Peikes, to end the game. Lucas Busch went 3-3 at the plate and scored 3 runs in the game. Busch got the Braves started offensively with a blast to center and scored the only run the Braves would need on a hit from James Eden (3-3) and a Kyle Nichols RBI. Alex Haggerty also went 1-3 at the plate. Sam Fiske recorded the only hit for the Dodgers on the first at-bat of the game. Fiske also threw well for the Dodgers going 4 innings with 6K’s. Thomas Zinzarella threw well for the Dodgers in the fifth, recording 2K’s.

Data Mail Orioles 5 Feigenbaum & Nair Cardinals 2. The Data Mail Orioles defeated the Feigenbaum & Nair Scrap Metal Processing Cardinals 5 to 2 on a hot Memorial Day afternoon. Eduardo Rodriguez made his pitching debut and threw 3 solid innings (4H, 2K) giving up no runs. Hard throwing Joe Morrisey came in to finish the game (3IP, 6K, 2H, 2R). Alex DellaBianca and Seth Meisler worked hard behind the plate making good plays and throwing out runners. Jack Davis and Milo Olson also made great defensive plays to keep the Cards at bay.

Offensively Meisler was 2-2 while DellaBianca, Celbe Biffinger, Joe Morrisey, Mack Reynolds, and Bryce DellaBianca all added hits.

David Gassner pitched a solid game for the Cardinals (5IP, 3K, 5H) lasting 5 innings. On the offensive side the Cards were led by Isaias Villalobos (2-2, 1RS), Matt Doyle (2-2), and Steve Olechna (2-2, 1RS). Nice defensive plays were made by both Colman Glagovich and Elliot Duprey.

Data Mail Orioles 7 Rock Cat Twins 2. One Friday night baseball game featured the Data Mail Orioles vs. the Rock Cats Twins with the Orioles extending their win streak winning 7 to 2.

Celbe Biffinger pitched 5 brilliant innings for the Orioles. Giving up only 2 hits and 1 run he handed the ball over to reliever Bryce DellaBianca to finish the game. The whole Orioles team played solid defense with 14 put outs. On the offensive side Chris Keegan had his second triple in as many games while Seth Meisler and Alex DellaBianca each had two hits and Eduardo Rodriguez ripped a double.

For the Twins Patrick O’Keefe battled the Orioles staying strong on the mound through 3 1/3 not giving up a run and striking out 5. The Twins offense was led by Declan Chill who had 2 hits and Nathan Graber-Lipperman hit a nice double as well.

Kimberly Clark Pirates defeat TotalVision Eyecare Center A's 10-1. The Kimberly Clark Pirates led by strong pitching and great fielding defeated theTotalVision Eyecare Center A's 10-1. Noah Shulman starter pitched 20 pitches in two strong innings allowing 1 run on on two hits. He handed a 2-1 lead over to the bullpen who shutout the A's over the next 4 innings. Connor Swanton pitched the 3rd striking out 2. The star of the game was Pablo Miras-Desimone. Pablo pitched 3 innings striking out 6 A's batters while allowing only 2 hits. Hitting stars for the Pirates Brendan Horan (1-3), Pablo Miras-DeSimone (1-3) and Danny Harris (1-3). Kenneth Galm was extremely solid on defense he set the tone for the whole team, he made a key stab in the bottom of the first on a hot shot to third off the bat of Charlie Lage. Kenneth has proven to be very solid and reliable at third over the past three games. The A's were led by the pitching of Daniel Alpert (4.1 innings, 7 runs 1 earned, 2 hits, 8 k's and 4 BB). The other star was Spencer Altman who relieved Daniel (1.2 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit and 4k's). Spencer also hit a triple to right center in the bottom of the second.
