Good & Plenty = Candy Terrorism, West Hartford Sports Sked, Annie Auditions

Here are five things going on in the area today.

Good morning, West Hartford! Today is Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013; there are 104 days left in the year.

With Halloween coming up, I have a question: Who the heck eats Good & Plenty?

No, really. Identify yourself.

I’ve written extensively on the topic of candy that has both benefited and suffered from being poorly named.

I want to revise my list to include Good & Plenty as a candy that has, without question coasted on its name for decades. And it’s disgusting.

There ain’t nuthin’ good about Good & Plenty. Oh, there is certainly plenty of it.

A better name for it would be Nasty and Way Too Much. Good & Plenty is a form Candy Terrorism(™), which I’ve also written extensively about.

Candy Terrorism is when a sweet looks like it tastes good, but, in fact, causes you bodily distress. For example, you ever put a red hard candy in your mouth, expecting cherry and instead getting cinnamon? That will ruin your day.

Well, Good & Plenty comes in pastel-colored capsules in that purple box, and all you are rewarded with is black licorice. NOT. COOL.

Come at me with Good & Plenty and we are going to have words.

Here’s what’s going on today.

1. In the Know at the Senior Center at 9 a.m.

2. Free wellness class on inflammation.

3. Auditions for Annie here.

4. Conard and Northwest Catholic boys and girls soccer teams square off against each other today at 3:45 p.m. The boys are at Conard, the girls are at Northwest Catholic. The girls volleyball teams also play at 5 p.m.

5. The Hall boys and girls soccer teams square off against Newington at 3:45 p.m.. The boys are home, the girls are away.
