Taste While You Toast, Live Music, Events at CHS and Hill-Stead

Five things to help you plan your day on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

Good morning, West Hartford! Today is Wednesday, July 24, 2013. I'm liking the forecast for temperatures in the mid-80s and lower humidity!

Today in West Hartford ...

  1. If it's a Wednesday in the summer, it's "Tastes N' Toasts" night at Blue Back Square. This week Besito is the host restaurant and Covenant to Care is the charity. Runs from 5-9 p.m.
  2. If you need a break from tasting and toasting, the Balkun Brothers Band will be performing on the stage in Blue Back's Courtyard from 7-9 p.m.
  3. Something different to do with the younger kids, just over the border into Hartford. Story and craft time at the Connecticut Historical Society, One Elizabeth St. (near the UConn Law School) includes a tour of CHS's hands-on exhibits. Other dates are available. There's also a "Passport to History" program at CHS at 1 p.m. on Wednesday for kids ages 7-10.
  4. Richard Blanco, poet for Pres. Barack Obama's 2013 inauguration, will be at the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival at the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington.
  5. In case you missed it ... Mayor Scott Slifka and University of Hartford Women's Basketball Coach Jen Rizzotti were two of West Hartford's seven representatives on the Hartford Business Journal's "40 Under Forty" list.
