25 Days of Giving: Day 5

Today's giving was inspired by our wonderful nanny Katie and the teachers at Maple Hill Elementary School in Naugatuck...

Today’s giving was inspired by our wonderful nanny Katie. She has been babysitting the girls after school for the last year and a half. With a wonderful heart and a gentle spirit, Katie has become a special part of our family. So of course she is involved with our “25 Days of Giving”.

When she heard about what we had planned for this month, Katie had an idea. She is the guidance counselor at Maple Hill Elementary School in Naugatuck, and this year the teachers are asking for toy donations instead of gifts from their students. The toys will then be collected and distributed to families in town who may need a little extra help this season, some of them Maple Hill families. Katie asked if it would be alright if instead of purchasing Christmas gifts for the girls this year, she take them shopping so they could each pick out a gift for a child in need. After explaining her school’s toy project to the girls today, they became  excited and off they went to Toys"R"Us!  Katie said they were on board from the beginning and looking forward to each choosing a gift for a child in need. What  wonderful and thoughtful teachers at Maple Hill, and how very blessed we are to have Katie in our lives!

How to Give Back: To donate to the Maple Hill Elementary School toy drive,  please contact the school at (203) 720-5236. Tell them Katie sent you! To give to children and families in need in our town, contact the West Hartford Human Services Office at (860) 561-7500.
