My friend, Mary, recently posted that she was “taking a time out.” As a fellow mom, I can completely relate, and find myself feeling the same way at times. After a hectic day of making breakfasts, packing lunches, outfit changes, drop offs and pick ups, umpiring arguments, planning, shopping and cooking dinner, cleaning, wiping, scrubbing, organizing, hugging, loving, bathing and kissing … sometimes a TIME OUT is just what the doctor ordered.
According to the Super Nanny (LOVE her, maybe it’s the fact that she has an English accent and never seems to yell. Then again she doesn’t have children of her own, does she?) But I digress … ah yes, in the Super Nanny’s version of a Time Out, she uses the Naughty Step, which seems to be quite effective, and I think is totally workable for A Mommy Time Out as well.
First, we are alone. All alone. I don’t even think we are allowed to talk to anyone! Next, we are sitting. SITTING. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY. I think I would forgo the step stair and find a soft comfortable chair. And how about instead of just sitting there – sitting and thinking of what we had done — what if we had a tall glass of Skinnygirl Margarita in our hand? That would help. Yes, I think this could work.
