Adult Mentors Needed For New Youth Mentoring Program At CREC Academy of Aerospace & Engineering In Bloomfield

Both male and female adult mentors are needed now by Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters for an after-school youth mentoring program that is starting shortly at the Capitol Region Education Council's Academy of Aerospace & Engineering in Bloomfield. The announcement was made by Tara Gill, Site-Based Coordinator for Nutmeg, who will be managing the program.

"Everybody at CREC and Nutmeg are extremely excited about this new venture," said Gill. "The program will meet every Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The children being mentored are students from CREC's Academy of Aerospace & Engineering in Bloomfield. We're anticipating that some of the adults mentoring those children will be CREC employees, but we're also hoping that many men and women from Bloomfield and the surrounding communities investigate the opportunity to discover how much fun and rewarding a mentoring experience can be."

Those interested in taking part in the program need not have prior experience in working in working with children, or have child-related academic degrees. Mentoring candidates must be at least 21 years of age and must be willing to commit to the program for the entire school year. Mentors in the Nutmeg program at CREC's Academy of Aerospace & Engineering will spend their one hour each week building a friendship with their mentees, helping them with their schoolwork, and playing games and doing activities with them.

"It's amazing what these programs achieve, for both mentors and the children being mentored," said Andy Fleischmann, Nutmeg's President and CEO. "By giving their mentees the invaluable gifts of their friendship and support, mentors can alter a child's perspective on what the world can offer - and can change the life of a child. Time and time again, Big Brothers and Sisters who've been matched with a child tell us how hugely gratifying it is for them to experience the impact they're having. Many say they get as much, or more, out of the experience as the child they're matched with!"
