It has been an honor for the to provide essential services to the residents and businesses of West Hartford during and after Tropical Storm Irene. DPW staff was among the first responders, called upon during the height of the storm to assess roadways impacted by debris, fallen trees and downed power lines. DPW personnel worked diligently to clear the roads, providing safe passages for the residents and emergency vehicles.
The fared extremely well in light of the anticipated weather conditions and the devastation experienced by communities across the state. The vast majority of our residents and businesses received little to no damage. Several residents were able to quickly clean up their properties on their own or with the assistance of private landscapers. Town-wide assessment confirms that storm damages were isolated, attributed to fallen debris caused by Irene.
Residents’ yard waste can be disposed at DPW Recycling Center, located on Brixton Street. The Center will be open this Saturday, Sept. 3, from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. We encourage the community to take advantage of this service, available at no cost to residents of West Hartford.
The Department of Public Works understands that some residents may have suffered greater hardship then their neighbors. Do not hesitate to call on us for our services as we are here to serve the community in all weather conditions.
