CHFA offers eight-hour homebuyer education courses free-of-charge to prospective homebuyers and CHFA loan applicants year-round through its HUD-approved, participating counseling agencies located across the state.
The eight-hour course is open to specific CHFA loan applicants and anyone interested in learning about the path to homeownership. The course includes instruction in the financial and practical aspects of buying and maintaining a home as well as individual financial and credit counseling sessions. The class is offered on week day evenings and Saturdays to accommodate diverse schedules.
What topics are covered in this class?
CHFA’s eight-hour homebuyer education class provides detailed coverage of the technical, financial and practical aspects involved in buying a home, applying for a mortgage and maintaining a home. The curriculum reviews the sometimes complex trail of documentation that accompanies a home purchase from the offer to the closing. For first-time homebuyers unfamiliar with the ongoing costs and requirements of homeownership, this class also assists them in planning a budget and a home maintenance schedule. In addition to the curriculum on the home buying process, the eight-hour class also offers individualized financial credit and counseling sessions.
