Playing on the Spectrum gym program and Running Club for children with autism spectrum disorder are offered again this fall. Registration is now open!
Playing on the Spectrum Gym and sports program will be offered at in West Hartford on four Sundays in October: October 7, 14, 21 and 28. Children ages 3 to 5 from 12:00 to 12:45; children ages 6 to 8 from 1:00 to 1:50 p.m. and ages 9 to 12, from 2:00 to 2:50 p.m. Children are encouraged to exercise, learn sports skills and interact with each other.
Sessions are facilitated by trained clinicians, but parents are required to remain. Siblings are invited to join a separate Siblings Club with arts and crafts and fun activities.
Cost of Playing is $40 per participant; siblings are $10 per participant. To register, call the ECC Main office, 860-561-8160.
A similar program will be offered at the South Windsor Community Center on the four Saturdays in November. To register for the South Windsor program, go to www.recreation.southwindsor.org.
Running on the Spectrum, co-sponsored by AFC and , offers this non-competitive "open track" program to all ages and abilities. Individuals can run or walk safely and correctly, build endurance and enjoy this sport. Fall session takes place at track in West Hartford.
Practices begin Sunday, September 23 at 4:30 p.m. and continue for 8 weeks until November 11. Subsidized cost is $20 for those with autism. Siblings are encouraged to register as well. Parents and pets are welcome to walk and run, too. To register, visit www.signmeup.com/86141.
