Nethersole Recognized with America East Player of the Week Honors

AMERICA EAST RELEASE

BOSTON, Mass. –
Sophomore utility hitter Sareeta Nethersole pulled in her first weekly conference honor when she received America East Player of the Week accolades as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Nethersole combined for 71 kills and 53 digs, while hitting at an average of .297 over four matches last week.

Nethersole finished three of her four matches with double figure kills, including a career-high of 23 in the first match of the week, the 2012 home opener against CCSU. She also put up double figure numbers in digs in all four matches, extending her current steak of double figure digs to seven.

In the first of three matches at the Volley in the Valley hosted by Marist, Nethersole collected 21 kills, while also recording 20 digs, her first career double double with 20 or more kills and digs. In addition to leading the team in those two matches, Nethersole also put up team best numbers against Marist with eight kills and NJIT with 19 kills.

In addition to her double digit digs, Nethersole also combined for 15 total blocks last week, including a career-high six, two solo and four block assists, against the host Marist Red Foxes on Saturday night.

For the season, Nethersole leads the Hawks and the America East with 109 kills and a .300 hitting percentage, 30 errors in 263 total attacks. She is also fifth in the league, and leads the team, with 90 digs, while her 21 total blocks also leads Hartford.

A native of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., Nethersole follows in the footsteps of older sister Kami Nethersole who earned the same honor last season on August 29. Fellow classmate Jackie Tamburri was also honored by the league last season, earning Rookie of the Week accolades twice and Setter of the Week distinction once.

Nethersole and the Hawks return to action tonight when they host the Connecticut Huskies for a mid-week battle of in-state foes. Hartford and UConn are scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at the Reich Family Pavilion on campus.
