NWC Offers Support to Sandy Hook Students

Northwest Catholic stands with the community of Newtown and the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The school is reaching out in support to the Sandy Hook community, including a member of the NWC family. Barbara Smith-Tarpey ’93 has a 1st grader, whose class escaped from the shooting and survived, as well as a 4th grader at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Her husband is also a first responder in Newtown. NWC is asking students and members of the NWC community to send in super hero capes. These will be presented to each of the Sandy Hook students when they return to school. Capes may be dropped off in the Art Room or main office until Fri. Dec. 21, 2012.

In addition, NWC held a prayer service in honor of the victims and survivors of the Sandy Hook shooting, including lighting candles for each of the victims. On the day of the prayer service, NWC students and faculty wore green and white, the school colors of Sandy Hook Elementary School, to show solidarity with the Sandy Hook community. The NWC Christmas concert was also dedicated to those affected by this tragedy.
