Boys’ Golf team won the CIAC Division IV State Championship in soggy, cold, and windy conditions on June 5, shooting a 313 at Fairview Farms in Harwinton. Old Saybrook came in second with a 320.
This is the fifth State title for NWC’s Boys’ Golf program; the previous titles were in 2010, 2008, 2000 and 1996.
Brian Butler '12 of West Hartford was the medalist, shooting 72 (even par). The other scores came from Ryan Strid '12 of Avon (76), Thomas Murphy '12 of West Hartford (81), and Alex Phibbs '12, of West Hartford (84).
Butler, Strid, and Phibbs were named All-State; Strid is one of only 12 people in CT to be named All-State three times for golf. Butler also qualified to compete in New Englands.
Cultivating students’ athletic gifts is central to NWC’s mission to educate the whole person -- mind, body, spirit, and soul. There are still some spots available in some grades for September 2012 admission; contact Maryann Lacouture (mlacouture@nwcath.org) for more information.
