OM Teams Compete at Worlds!

two Odyssey of the Mind teams placed first at the Connecticut State tournament in Bristol, CT on March 31, 2012.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program, which develops teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills through creative thinking.  Charter Oak's teams competed in Problem 1: To Be or Not to Be; and in Problem 5: Odyssey Angels.

Each team presented performances that revolved around a specific theme and incorporated required elements. They created their own scripts, costumes, props and characters. In addition, the students solved spontaneous problems that were given to them at the time of the competition.

Charter Oak International Academy is an International Baccalaureate magnet school. It serves a richly diverse community of students and families.

Odyssey of the Mind provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.

Team members will compete May 23 to 26 at the World Finals Competition at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. The teams are seeking sponsors to help fund the costs involved in the competition.  Donations may be made through the Quest Office at West Hartford Public Schools, Quest Program, 50 South Main Street, Room 327West Hartford, CT  06107.
