Tavern Nights at Noah Webster House

This winter, warm up with an evening of good food, live music, drinks, and tavern games. Tavern Nights at the Noah Webster House offer a unique night out. These entertaining evenings will take place on Saturday, January 26; Friday, February 15; Friday, March 15; and Saturday, April 6. Each night offers a different menu or entertainment. Sittings are offered at 6 & 8 p.m. on Fridays and 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Reservations are required.

On Saturday, January 26, the menu includes cheese and apples, steak pie, roasted potatoes, steamed green beans, and gingerbread. The entertainer for the evening will be Don Sineti, a local chanteyman with a big following and a bigger voice.

The Saturday, February 15 evening will offer bread and cheese, baked ham and apples, baked beans, steamed carrots, and Queen’s cake. Musician Rick Spencer teams up with the museum’s Executive Director Chris Dobbs to bring down the house with a variety of foot-stomping tavern tunes.

Tavern Night: A Taste of Ireland takes place on Friday, March 15. Sit down to a meal of corned beef, cabbage, Irish soda bread, and dessert. Cathy’s Irish Band will serenade with a variety of traditional music.

The final evening will take place on Friday, April 6 and will feature roasted chicken, biscuits, gravy, corn, and apple pie. Debra Cowan, another newcomer to Tavern Nights is the featured musician. According to her website, www.debracowan.com, “She performs a cappella and with guitar in the great tradition of folk singers like Joan Baez and Judy Collins, with a clear vocal that calls forth the ghosts of long past.”

Each evening ends with a variety of traditional tavern games. Guests are welcome to try Skittles, Captain’s Mistress, Shove Ha’penny, and several other eighteenth century games.

A valid ID is required for alcoholic drinks. Vegetarian options must be requested at the time reservations are made. Pricing and reservations are available through the museum’s website at www.noahwebsterhouse.org, or by calling 860-521-5362 x10.
