On Nov. 30, the Webelos I Scouts from and met with Mayor Scott Slifka at .
The Webelos I Den 7 Scouts enjoyed a “behind the scenes” look at local government with West Hartford's Mayor Slifka. The mayor led us on a guided tour the Town Council chamber, conference room, and offices. We learned that Town Hall was originally Hall High school. The mayor’s office was where the principal’s office once was and the conference room and adjacent offices were the library.
Next, we visited with the mayor in his office and had an opportunity to have a question and answer session. Discussion centered on the challenges faced by the town during the recent “State of Emergency” created by the freak October snowstorm. The Mayor talked about some changes the city will make to be better prepared for similar events in the future.
We concluded by presenting Mayor Slifka with a Cub Scout coin engraved with the Cub Scout motto, “Do Your Best”!
