Cricket Press, one of West Hartford's teams in the 19U Division of the Jaycee-TDBank Summer Baseball League, took home the championship trophy on Sunday at the Silver City Grand Slam Tournament in Meriden.
The team, coached by Tom Cook, Marcel Ranieri, Tom Gionfriddo and Jerry Marren, defeated the Long Island Mariners in dramatic fashion, with a score of 2-1 in the championship game of the weekend tournament.
Cricket Press went 2-1 in round robin play, finishing in a three-way tie for first place. They made the championship game after leading all teams in the tie-breaking category of runs allowed.
Highlighting the day were outstanding pitching performances by Chris Warnken and Stephen Ranieri.
