CREC Montessori Magnet School Presents: An Evening of the Arts, “Winter Cheer!”

On Thursday, December 12, the CREC Montessori Magnet School will host an Evening of the Arts, “Winter Cheer!” at the Learning Corridor in Hartford. For the first time, the school will combine its winter concert with its annual art show, beginning at 5:00 pm in the theater lobby. The concert will begin at 6:00 p.m.

In an effort to bring attention to the importance of arts in education, the school’s music and art teachers worked together to make sure that every student, ages 5-12, would take part in the performance and/or an art display. The show will begin with a drum performance by Abu Carter, a 72-year-old Hartford artist who has been promoting African and African American culture throughout the state since 1973. At 6 p.m., all families will proceed to the theater where they can enjoy an evening of strings, recorder, band, and chorus performances.

"Everyone at our school has been involved in making this event possible,” shared Vivian Novo-MacDonald, Assistant Principal at the CREC Montessori Magnet School. “Student artwork graces the theater lobby as well as the cover of the concert program. Our teachers have made sure that all students are at their best while they wait to perform and as they come on stage. We expect a full house!"

A highlight of the evening will be the sale of ceramic items made by CREC Montessori Magnet School students in support of the school’s Starlight Fund. The Starlight Fund was created this year in response to the struggles and needs of the school’s own students and their families.

The CREC Montessori Magnet School’s “Winter Cheer!” will be held at the Learning Corridor Theater located at 359 Washington Street, Hartford, CT 06106 on Thursday, December 12, 2013 beginning at 5 p.m. Family and community members are invited to attend.
