In 1919, a group of young Jewish men envisioned building a new congregation prepared to accept modern interpretation of age-old ethics and observances. Their vision and fortitude those ninety five years ago led to the beginning of our sacred community, The Emanuel Synagogue, The Emanuel, now located at 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, will celebrate its significant anniversary in a variety of ways throughout the year focusing on its five core values: Participatory prayer, Life-long learning, Caring, Tikkun Olam/Repairing the World, and Love of Israel and the Jewish people.
The anniversary year will kick-off on Sunday evening, April 6th, when we showcase our values of Caring and Tikkun Olam/Repairing the World. Event co-chairs Sally Henowitz and Judy Mooney are planning a joyous celebratory evening which will honor two very important leaders of our B’Yadeynu (In Our Hands) Committee, Risa Davidson and Janet Wallans, along with Gloria McAdam, President and CEO of Foodshare. Seth Waxman (41st Solicitor General, United States) who like Risa was raised at The Emanuel, will be our keynote speaker. His topic is:  Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World): What the Emanuel Taught Me. Host for the evening will be Rachel Frank, meteorologist on FOXCT.
Tickets for the event and information are available from The Emanuel Synagogue 860-236-1275, www.emanuelsynagogue.org and by email at 95thcelebration@gmail.com. Ticket prices begin at $95.00 per person with sponsorship opportunities available. Greetings in our honoree tribute book begin at $36.00.
