Fashion, Films and Fabulous Footwear at the Mandell JCC's Book Meets Film; Monday, November 11, 2013

The literary and fashion worlds come together at Book Meets Film on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at the Mandell JCC, Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT. This event is part of the 21st Annual Jewish Book Festival’s Jewish Book Week and will feature Jane Weitzman, author of Art & Sole – A Spectacular Selection of More Than 150 Fantasy Art Shoes from the Stuart Weitzman Collection, and the film Dressing America: Tales from the Garment Center. This event is sponsored by Kimberly Boutique, whose fashions will be modeled throughout the program.

Dressing America tells the story of the New York City fashion district, also known at the Garment Center, and how Jewish immigrants transformed a neighborhood, dressed America, and moved up the socio-economic ranks in a single generation.

Weitzman was the Executive Vice President of Stuart Weitzman and the first Vice President of Stuart Weitzman Retail. She spearheaded philanthropy for the company by generating funds to support breast and ovarian cancer research and awareness, through charity events on the brand’s website. Since the boutique opened its doors nearly two decades ago, the windows of Stuart Weitzman’s Madison Avenue store have featured extravagant displays of one-of-a-kind art shoes, chosen by the iconic designer’s wife, Jane Weitzman. Over the years she found and commissioned more than 1,000 unique pieces of fantasy footwear from artists all over the world in almost every imaginable medium. Art & Sole offers a visual collection of these displays. Through her written introduction and the accompanying images, readers will learn about Weitzman’s successes, enthusiasm, and dedication to this project.
