Guys & Dolls to be Presented by the West Hartford Summer Arts Festival

“You’ve seen me roll for a hundred G’s. But I’ve got a little more than dough riding on this one.” Sky Masterson, the New York City gambling legend, makes this statement as he bets his fellow gamblers to keep his word to Sarah Brown, the “Mission Doll” who’s stolen his heart. Their love story, and that of their friends Nathan Detroit and the nightclub star Adelaide, will be told by the West Hartford Summer Arts Festival in its production of Guys & Dolls this July 25, 26, & 27 at Hall High School.

Celebrating 37 summers of educating young performers in the many disciplines of theatre, the West Hartford Summer Arts Festival (SAF) is led by founder and Executive Producer Haig Shahverdian; Artistic Director Sara Demos Avery; Music Director Emmett Drake; and Choreographer Kate Morran. According to Demos Avery, the artistic staff chose to perform Guys & Dolls for the third time in the program’s history as a way to challenge themselves to present the Broadway classic in a new light. “Guys & Dolls is an incredibly popular show to produce. We’re trying to take a fresh, more modern approach to the material, reimagining many of the hallmark numbers in ways the audience has not seen before,” says Demos Avery.
