HSC’s Ivan Lendl Adaptive Sports Camp Kicks Off its 23rd Year

Each August, campers, coaches and instructors from Connecticut and beyond join together at Hospital for Special Care (HSC) Ivan Lendl Adaptive Sports Camp, for a week-long, free day camp offered for youth ages six to 19 living with physical disabilities.  This year’s Camp will be at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford from Monday, Aug. 5 through Friday, Aug. 9, 2013.

“Camp is one of the most popular and well-attended events in our Adaptive Sports Program, and the only one of its kind in New England,” said Janet Connolly, Sports and Community Program Manager, HSC. “Last year, we had 40 children sign up for camp, and we are excited to see that this year’s campers will be coming from other states beyond Connecticut like Massachusetts and New York.”

Coaching and instruction in sports such as tennis, swimming, basketball, soccer and track & field is provided by experienced program specialists and athletes living with physical disabilities, many of whom have been recognized at the national and international level for their accomplishments.
