INTENSIVE EDUCATION ACADEMY HOSTS SPECIAL NEEDS RESOURCE FAIR ON SEPTEMBER 7th

 The Intensive Education Academy, located at 840 North Main Street, West Hartford will be hosting a Community Special Needs Resource Fair on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

This is an outstanding opportunity for families of special needs children and adults to learn about some of the services available. The following list are some of the organizations that will be attending:  Department of Children and Families, The ARC of Farmington Valley, Advanced Behavioral Foster Care Services, Law Office of Suzanne S. Neville, MetLife for Special Needs Planning, Creative Interventions, Infinity Music Therapy Services, SpEd Connecticut, Autism Families CT, SEPTA, DDS, CREC, Autism Services & Resources, K21 Kid Strong Foundation, Northwestern Mutual, and Thames Academy.

Mary Stark, a Transitional Coordinator at DDS will be speaking at 10:30 AM about what services are offered by DDS, what happens when children turn 18, how families can plan for their future, and how to use their school’s graduate funding.

Anita Cohen, an Educational Liaison at DDS will speak at 12:30 PM on who is eligible, how to apply, individual and family team services, autism spectrum services, and other family support.

 

Some of the quotes from last year’s event were, “it is an awesome way to network with special needs agencies”, “in a time where resources from DDS and other providers are not readily available or easily accessible, it is impressive how many vendors were in attendance.”
