Song and Risk Taking for Faith

Every year there is one week where the Jewish Sabbath service is especially devoted to song. “Shabbat Shira” commemorates the Israelites marching out of Egypt and crossing the Red Sea on dry land. For this year’s celebration, Saturday, January 11, The Emanuel Synagogue’s Religious School children took part in the musical service as well as a special program afterwards focusing on the theme of risk-taking based on faith. Director of Education, Judith T. Fox told a story illustrating the positive impact taking a risk for faith (such as leaving Egypt and following God’s command to march into the Red Sea) can have. Students and their parents then shared stories of their own risk-taking and what they learned from these experiences. This photo shows the students preparing their musical selections.
