St. Thomas the Apostle School WALK A THON

St. Thomas the Apostle School in West Hartford, CT was founded in 1937 by the Sisters of Mercy.  Today, the school proudly educates 233 students, grades Pre-K 3 through the 5th grade, representing over 15  towns of the greater Hartford area.  St. Thomas the Apostle School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is a community of many faiths, cultures, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds committed to educational excellence in the Roman Catholic tradition.

On September 11th, our school community gathered on our Parish Plaza for our second annual, school wide WALK-A-THON...STA SETS THE PACE!  At the sound of “GO”, the walk around our  campus began, led by our parish priest, Father Edward Moran.  The walking course, lined with sponsor signs and parents cheering, was a wonderful site!  In addition, there were two snack stations to re-fuel the athletes, inclusive of oranges slices, water bottles, cheese sticks and pretzels all of which were donated by sponsors.  Our school block was bustling with happy sounds from our enthusiastic students and teachers, to our cheering friends and lively music to keep those feet moving!

We are delighted to share that our St. Thomas the Apostle School community walked a total of 1,300 laps, totaling 325 miles in just an 80-minute period.  We had 233 students, over 30 parents and 30 staff, helping STA SET THE PACE!  In addition to the day being a tremendous success spiritually, it also was financially.  St. Thomas the Apostle School received over $18,000 in pledges and donations.  All proceeds will go directly to the continued implementation of new safety measures for the school.
