State Colleges: They Weren't Broken Until the Fix Was In

I've taken courses at most of the colleges in greater Hartford, and that they one thing they all had in common as recently as three years ago was that they were excellent classroom experiences. Could the same thing be said today? Not necessarily about Connecticut's public colleges.

Now after the two college systems were merged under the Board of Regents, and "reform" was passed in the shape of PA 12-40 (AKA "Beth Bye's" folly), faculty morale is in a tailspin, and the money problems have gone from bad to worse.

Now the Governor has proposed $138Million to bail out the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities. There's just one problem. The bloated Board of Regents makes the system so top-heavy that is seems highly unlikely that any of the money will trickle down to the classroom or be of any benefit to the students whatsoever.

If I were a Republican candidate this year, I would be sure to make some hay out of this.
