“Tinkering Tuesdays” all summer long at The New Children’s Museum

Hoping to avoid the dreaded “I’m bored” factor this summer?  Come tinker on Tuesdays at The New Children’s Museum!  Support for this work was provided (in part) by the LEGO Children’s Fund.

Beginning July 9 through August 13, Tinkering Tuesdays provide an opportunity to create, design and discover with a series of planned activities.  Here is the schedule:

·       July 9: Tool Use – Learn the science skill most necessary to tinkering:  proper use of TOOLS! Using trusty shop tools like hammers, screwdrivers, saws, solder, create wooden masterpieces!

·       July 16: Circuits – Make snap circuits and squishy circuits!

·       July 23: Egg Drop - Build your own contraption for an egg.  After building the contraption, it will be lifted up 15 feet and dropped with the egg inside of it.  Will the egg survive?

·       July 30: Crafts – Enjoy a day of crafts at the Museum – spin art, origami, toad houses for the garden, knitting, crochet, and felting are a few of the crafty activities happening.

·       August 6: Medieval – Catapults were engineering feats of the Middle Ages and maybe you can't build an actual catapult that can take down the walls of a castle but you can build a miniature just for fun and to show your friends at the Medieval Tinkering Day!

August 13: Vertcal Wind Tunnels – build a flying device, place it in a vertical wind tunnel and see how high it goes! Can you make your flying device spin, or fly at a certain altitude?

Tinkering activities are free with general admission and take place during Museum hours from 9:00am to 4:00pm are free with general admission.

The New Children’s Museum features over 100 live animals, including the now famous Fennec foxes, hands-on science exhibits, out-of-this-world digital planetarium shows, and programs for younger children and families. The region’s premiere destinations for science and nature exploration, The New Children’s Museum is located at 950 Trout Brook Drive in West Hartford and at Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton.
