University of Saint Joseph Celebrates Festival of Lights on December 8

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (November 5, 2013) – On Sunday, December 8, 2013 the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) will host its annual Festival of Lights, an ecumenical celebration of the season of Advent. The Festival will be held at 4:00 p.m. in The Connor Chapel of Our Lady on the University’s West Hartford campus located at 1678 Asylum Avenue. This program is free of charge and the general public is cordially invited to attend. A combination of Scripture, music, liturgical dance and prayer, the Festival of Lights features: the University of Saint Joseph Choir and the Instrumental Ensemble, under the direction of Ezequiel Menendez, D.M.A.; the USJ Dance Ensemble, directed by Susan Murphy, M.A.; the Queenes Companye, USJ’s drama and theater performance troupe, directed by Mark Zelinsky, Ph.D.; the Voices of Praise Gospel Choir which is student directed; and the Gengras Center Choir, directed by Richard Alfonso. During the Festival, the congregation will participate in a traditional candle-lighting ceremony, recognizing the community’s spiritual joy and hope for the upcoming holiday season.

Immediately following this event, all are invited to the Festival of Lights Dinner in USJ’s McGovern Café. Admission: $15 per person; children ages 12 and under: $5.
