West Hartford Little League Scores for week ending 5-16-14‏

Majors: Primary Eye Care Center Cardinals 15 The Corner Pug Phillies 3

On Mother's Day 2014 the Primary Eye Care Center Cardinals and The Corner Pug Phillies played a terrific game for the parents (especially the moms) on this Mother's Day.  The Phillies came in with a division leading 4-1 record facing the Cardinals who were riding a 3 game winning streak.

The Cardinals got the scoring going first in the top of the 1st inning with a two out walk by Jack Newhouse followed by a two run home run by Dylan Mallinson to put the Cards up 2-0.  The Cardinals would add 4 in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd to go up 8-0 before the Phillies got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd with a run of their own.   With the score 9-1 in the bottom of the 5th, the Phillies looked to be staging a rally, but were only able to get 2 on the board to make it 9-3.  The Cardinals added 6 in the top of the 6th to put it out of reach at 15-3.

MAJORS: Big Sky Fitness A's: 4 Sports Authority Twins: 3

Mother's Day pitching duel nail biter.  In a game that took only 1 hour and 15 minutes to play, the Big Sky Fitness A's squeaked out a close one, beating the Sports Authority Twins 4-3.  This one went down to the wire.

It was a neighborhood battle on the mound as Morley's own Jack Brockway (5IP, 4H, 4R, 2ER, 5BB, 5K) and Ryan Druckenmiller went head-to-head for the whole game. Druckenmiller (6IP, 9H, 3R, 3ER, 1BB, 15K) won the duel scattering 7 bunt singles, a line-drive single by Brendan Parker to left and a deep double by Carter O'Keefe over 6 full innings. Druckenmiller struck out the side 3 times.

At the plate, the A's got another clutch mid-inning hit by Greg Katzman (1-2, 1B, 1BB, 2RBI) that drove in two runs and provided some breathing room for the A's into the 6th.  In the 6th, the Twins got within one after some clutch late inning hits and a timely final inning walk.  But a strong outfield relay by the A's Katzman and Matt Keller kept the tying run at 3rd allowing Druckenmiller to close it out with a K against the last batter he'd face in the game. The A's also got key hits from Brendan Marshall (1-3, 1B, 1R), Adam Hanlon (1-3, 1B) and Druckenmiller (1-1, 3B, 2BB, 3R).  A wonderfully caught game by Alex Ciafone who went 5 innings in the battery and did a great job pacing his pitcher.  This is Alex's first year in Majors (10YO) and he's already looking like a vet.

The Twins got a solid game from Joey Lemieux who went 3-3 (1B(3), 2R) and caught a great game behind the plate. And Jack Brockway (2-3, 1B(2)) had a strong game at the plate as well as the mound.

Majors: Primary Eye Care Center Cardinals 8 Stop & Shop Braves 7

On another great night for West Hartford Little League, the 4-2 Primary Eye Care Center Cardinals riding a four game winning streak hosted the division leading 5-1 Stop & Shop Braves in what would take extra innings to decide.  This was a tight game from beginning to end.  The Braves were solid on the mound with Evan Smart who went 4 innings and struck out 8 only letting up 4 runs.  Matt Schwab and Sean Guevara finished the game for the Braves and had strong performances.  The Cardinals got solid performances from Dillon Lindberg who started the game and went three innings, striking out three and keeping the offensively solid Braves to just three runs.  Sam Wilder finished for the Cardinals, going four innings, with 8ks and only allowing four runs.

At the plate the Braves were strong.  Jack Gaumer and Matt Schwab led the way for the Braves.  Matt went 2-3 (triple and single and two RBIs while Jack went 2-2 (double, single and two RBIs) delivering a clutch two RBI double to the gap in right center.  Seamus O'Connell had a single and two runs scored, Brennan Ravenberg went 1-2 with a walk and two runs scored and many other Braves got on base and ran the bases well.  The Braves has extremely good play in the field to keep things tied or close the entire game.

This was a great game with two evenly matched teams that are both looking forward to playing again later this season!

AAA We Care Computers Braves 13 - Rosenberg Orthodontics Marlins 8

Over time, Mondays have gained a negative reputation.  Fortunately for the Braves and the Marlins, their week started with a great baseball game at UCONN.   The Marlins arrived in the first inning straight off the plane from Miami, with five hits and five runs, including rally extending singles from Charlie Trunik and James Scully.  The Braves made their own long distance trip from Atlanta, answering with six runs in the bottom of the first, sparked by leadoff hitter Patrick Kinney’s single.  The Marlins added another three in the third, initiated by Calvin Feulner’s leadoff single and run.  The Braves scored in each inning, aside from the 4th when they went down 1-2-3.

Both teams showed the high quality pitching that has been running rampant in the AAA division this season.  For the Braves, Cayden Goldberg (2 IP, 2 K), Michael Weiss (2 IP, 5 K), and Joe Dooley (2 IP, 5 K) hit their targets and did not allow a walk between them.  The Marlins kept the game close with outstanding pitching from Andrew Messina (2 IP, 4 K) and Abraham Dunn (3 IP, 6 K).

Even with these five pitchers locked in, the bats came out.  For the Marlins, Abraham Dunn helped himself by going 3-4, including a double in the 6th inning.  Lucas Chmela chipped in two hits and a run, and Andrew Messina knocked in two in the first.  William McPherson could not be stopped, with two hits and three RBI.  The blasts of the day came from Matthew Cyr, with a poke to deep center, and Yonah Goldberg, who roped a double.  Kieran Davis played heads up baseball at the plate and in the field throughout the game, keeping the Braves off balance.

For the Braves, Cayden Goldberg did his best Hank Aaron impression, going 3-3 with 4 RBI, 4 SB, and 2 runs.  Joe Dooley added 3 runs and 2 RBI with a 2 for 2 effort, and the ever dependable Marcel Vicente was 2 – 2 with 2 runs.  Michael Weiss had 2 runs, and Oliver Roy and Rafael Fichandler were blurs on the base paths with 4 steals each.  Peter Brown advanced two runners to keep a rally going in the third, and Justin Dinowitz followed this up with an RBI single.  Sean Zeman led the defense in the middle innings at catcher, and Jayden Alvarez fielded grounders cleanly throughout the diamond.  In the end, this was a close and competitive contest for the duration of the game.

AAA - Mandell JCC Dodgers 11 Total Vision Eye Care A's 10

The Dodgers and A's clashed on Tuesday night and the game did not disappoint.  The Dodgers were able to push across a run in the bottom of the 6th to win the game and avoid extra innings.  Both teams displayed some solid defensive play with cleanly played fly balls to the outfield, catcher/pitcher plays at home plate, a text book relay from right field to home plate and throwing out of a runner at 2nd base on an attempted steal.

The A's took an early lead (8-4) after 2 innings of play.  Patrick S. (1-3, 2 runs), Tommy L. (1-3, run), Danie B. (2-2 2 runs) and Arthur S. (2-3, RBI, run) lead the offense for the A's.

The Dodgers retook the lead by the end of the 5th by scoring 6 unanswered runs.  Offensive standouts in the game for the Dodgers were Henry Schlatter (1-4, run, RBI), Aidan Roy (1-1, run), Keifer Morrow (2-2, 2 runs, 2 RBI, 2B), Quinn LaRock (1-2, 2 RBI, run), Ben Woerlen (1-2, 2 runs), Jacob Kessler (1-3, RBI) and Ziggy Sokolowski (1-2, RBI, 2 runs)

After seeing the A's push across 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning to tie the score on 2 hits and a walk the Dodgers were able to cut down a runner at home on an attempted steal with textbook catchers defense by Keifer Morrow and a nice cover and tag by Dylan Jackson.  In the bottom of the 6th the Dodgers started their rally with 1 out on a walk to Ziggy Sokolowski who stole around to third.  On a 1-2 pitch to Keifer Morrow, Ziggy came home on a wild pitch for the win.

The game marks the 3rd win in a row for the Fierce and Mighty Cardinals.

AAA - College Planning of CT Angels 13 Rosenberg Orthodontics Marlins 3

The Angels and Marlins finished off a 3 game week in style, as the Angles won 13-3 in front of a packed crowd at Solomon Schecter.

If you were in the vicinity of Solomon at approximately 5:35PM on Tuesday night, we apologize for what that must have done to your ear drums.  That is when Eli Wizevich jumped on the first pitch he saw and launched a 2 run home run to dead center field that easily cleared the fence.  The explosive sound the bat made stopped traffic for miles around.

The towering home run was infectious, as all Angels batters were ripping, led by Ryan Lafferty (2B, 1B, 3 RBI’s), Charlie Krajc (2 hits, 2 runs) and Jason Vitelli (2 hits, run).

The Marlins got the bats going as well, led at the dish by the blazing speed of Abraham Dunn (2 hits, 2 runs scored, 3 SB’s).  Lucas Chmela added a 2RBI double for the fish while Andrew Messina had  a hard hit single.

The Angels carried their offensive momentum to the field as well.  On the mound, Smilin’ Jack Kuhnly tossed 4 innings and fanned 7, while Coby Noll dealt the last 2 and struck out 5.  Sam Casey caught a screaming line drive at 3rd base, while Eli added a clean pick and throw from short.

The Marlins got solid defensive play from the always hustling Charlie Trunik, and William McPherson made his much anticipated mound debut and pitched solid ball.
