West Hartford resident recognized by Johns Hopkins University for academic excellence

Matteo Carrabba of West Hartford, and a 6th grader at Watkinson School was recently honored as one of the brightest young students in the nation at a statewide awards ceremony for academically advanced children sponsored by The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY). The Center honored Carrabba, a participant in the CTY Talent Search, for his exceptional performance on a rigorous, above-grade-level test given to academically talented second-through-eighth-grade students. During the CTY Talent Search advanced young learners take above-grade level tests designed for older students as a means of gaining insight into their abilities. Carrabba was one of more than 40,000 students from over 120 countries who participated in the CTY Talent Search. Because of the difficulty of the tests, only 25 to 30 percent of students who participated earned an invitation to a CTY Awards Ceremony where they are individually honored for their academic performance and potential. Watkinson School is Hartford's oldest independent day school serving students in grades 6-12/PG. Their next open house is July 10th at 6pm. *information provided by CTY
