An Amazing Show of Rainbows in the West Hartford Area

Many commented on the appropriateness of a rainbow on the day the Supreme Court struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

Wednesday afternoon was cloudy and the humidity was at tropical levels. Late in the afternoon there was spotty rain throughout the area.

Then, beginning right around 7 p.m., photos of rainbows were flying across social media sites. They were coming from West Hartford, as well as Simsbury, Avon, and other towns in the area. The rainbow remained in the sky much longer than usual, and at times a second arc could be clearly seen.

Many Facebook users commented that the rainbow's appearance was timely, a fitting message on the same day that the Supreme Court struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

Connecticut State Sen. Beth Bye (D-5th), who celebrated the Supreme Court's actions earlier in the day, found it extremely appropriate and was photographed with wife Tracey Wilson and friends Wednesday evening, with the rainbow clearly visible in the background.
