Avon and local veterans will tell you their stories from the Vietnam War at an artifacts display and open house Saturday at the Avon Free Public Library.
Avon VFW Post 3272 and the library are co-hosting "Our Service in Vietnam: In Our Own Words" in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The event includes "over 30 personal histories and photos of Vietnam veterans from Avon and surrounding towns," according to a press release.
The exhibit includes personal war artifacts, such as "uniforms, weapons, medals, maps and photos."
The new exhibit will be on display in the Library Gallery through Dec. 31 during regular library hours, the release said. The library and VFW encourage students and families to come.
The open house runs from 1 to 3 p.m. William Newman, a past post commander and Vietnam veteran, will introduce the featured veterans at 1:30 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to chat with the veterans and hear their "stories of courage and survival during wartime," the release states.
The library is located at 281 Country Club Road. For more information, call 860-673-9712 or visit avonctlibrary.info.
