Broken Air Conditioning Raises Ire of Blast Fitness Members

West Hartford gym relocating to new facility in November.

A broken air conditioner not only raised temperatures inside of Blast Fitness in West Hartford, but the ire of members who complained to WFSB about paying for amenities that were discontinued and the heat that made working out unbearable.

Eyewitness News recently visited Blast Fitness where the third floor was 86 degrees and an employee told the channel that the air conditioning had been just fixed and that it had been even warmer in the same area.

Members have also complained that the pool, steam room and sauna were also shut down, but Wilmary Mercado, a manager at Blast Fitness, told WFSB that those areas were always planned to be closed after the company took over Bally Total Fitness because those were Bally's amenities, not Blast's.

Mercado also told WFSB that the center is relocating to a new state of the art facility in November.

WFSB also reported that last month an investigation was opened by the local health department after complaints surfaced about the excessive heat and dirtiness.

Blast Fitness was ordered to fix dozens of violations and inspectors went to the facility five times in the past six weeks to check on the progress, according to WFSB.
