A Tu B’Shevat Weekend: Jews Working the Land

Please join Beth El Temple for a wonderful Tu B’Shevat weekend that is open to the entire Hartford community.  On Shabbat morning January 28th at 9:30 a.m. we welcome Judy Brenner, one of the organizers of Jewish Local Greens, (a West Hartford group that has formed to purchase produce shares from Adamah), a board member of JCRC, a member of Beth David Synagogue, and a consultant for Beth El Temple’s Jessie’s Garden.  She will be discussing what Judaism teaches us about how we should produce food in a sustainable way.   Judy spent several years in Africa with the Peace Corps teaching sustainable farming and will share stories of her experiences there.  Shabbat luncheon will follow services.

On Sunday morning January 29th Shamu Fenyvesi Sadah, the Director of ADAMAH at the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center in Falls Village, CT will share about what makes a farm “Jewish” and how a farm operates on a day-to-day basis.  Adamah (Hebrew for “earth”) is the largest educational Jewish farm in the U.S. and is affiliated with Hazon, (Hebrew for “vision”), the largest Jewish environmental group in the country.  Breakfast will be served at 9:15 a.m. and a sampling of the farms kraut and kimchi will be provided!  This program is sponsored by T’Green Olam, Beth El’s Environment & Energy Committee, and is free for Beth El Men’s Club members, $7 for all others.

Beth El Temple is an egalitarian congregation affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. The synagogue strives to create, sustain and strengthen Jewish unity and continuity through personal involvement in meaningful worship, ritual, learning and social action. All are welcome. Located at 2626 Albany Avenue in West Hartford, Beth El is home to worshippers who live in more than a dozen Central Connecticut cities.  For more information, please contact Beth El at (860) 233-9696, on the web at www.bethelwesthartford.org  or friend us on Facebook   http://www.facebook.com/bethelwh.
