Restoring plants and gardens after Storm Alfred and protecting them through the winter

The Connecticut Horticultural Society's Nov. 17 program meeting will feature experts who will offer general information about how best to protect or restore damaged trees, shrubs and perennials following the Oct. 29 storm. We'll also discuss what gardeners might expect in spring and do then to restore damaged gardens. Everyone is welcome to attend with their plant-related questions. The regular program meeting will follow, with speakers Dick and Judith Knott Tyler of Clarksville, Va., discussing what's new for shade gardening. The meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m., at Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Dr., West Hartford. Cost is $10 (free for CHS members and students with valid ID).
