Fabulous Fish Raise Funds for the Farmington

Earth Day gala and silent auction at REI will benefit the Farmington River Watershed Association.

The Farmington River Watershed Association (FRWA) and have partnered to present the second "Fabulous Fish for the Farmington" silent auction and gala to be held at REI West Hartford on Earth Day, April 22, 2012 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The FRWA is drawing on a New England folk-art tradition to inspire watershed stewardship. The talents of locally, nationally, and internationally known artists, will be displayed as life-size wooden fish will be individually decorated and auctioned off. Designs for the Fabulous Fish are inspired by the natural diversity of the watershed, the beauty of fish, and the creativity of the artists.

Last held in 2010, the Fabulous Fish fundraiser proved to be one of the most successful fundraisers for the Farmington River Watershed Association ever. Proceeds help FRWA to protect water quality and foster environmental stewardship throughout the Farmington River Watershed.

Stretching across 33 towns and 609 square miles, the Farmington River Watershed is an essential resource for life in Connecticut and Massachusetts. The watershed supports abundant recreational opportunities; unique fish, wildlife, and plant habitats; and hydropower generation.

The Farmington is the first river in Connecticut to have a section federally designated as “wild and scenic.” The watershed’s reservoirs and aquifers provide clean water to about 1 million people (one third of Connecticut’s entire population).

Since its inception in 1953, the Farmington River Watershed Association (FRWA), a nonprofit environmental organization, has been the guardian and champion of the Farmington River and its watershed. Today, the FRWA conducts research, education, stewardship and advocacy programs to fulfill its mission of protecting the Farmington River and the natural resources of its watershed forever.

The fabulous fish will be on display at REI, West Hartford, 71 Raymond Road (), West Hartford and bidders can hook one of their own during the silent auction and gala on April 22.
