Let the World Scholar-Athlete Games Begin

Youth from all over the world gather at the University of Hartford to celebrate "First Night" of the World Scholar-Athlete Games.

Current participants as well as alumni of the World Scholar-Athlete Games gathered at the on Sunday evening to kick off a celebration of friendly competition, collaboration, and peace which will continue until July 4.

Dan Doyle, Executive Director of the Institute for International Sport and the organizer of both the World Scholar-Athlete Games and the World Youth Peace Summit, opened the ceremony with a preview of activities which will take place over the next nine days.

Student participants from all corners of the world – places like Argentina, England, and Bangladesh – as well as Connecticut students, passed a torch to each other as they introduced themselves and prepared for a whirlwind experience culminating in the creation of peace initiatives which will be brought back to their own communities.

Amir Dossal, the recently-retired Executive Director of United Nations Partnerships who is now serving as Special Envoy to the World Youth Peace Summit, addressed the audience to talk about how the United Nations views the World Youth Peace Summit.
