People report bear sightings? Why? Should I report a squirrel sighting too? What kind of a state is this?

Read this article this morning and was thinking I hadn't seen a bear around here in a while. Then this afternoon I was driving along route 10/202 in Simsbury when a large black bear ran across the road right in front of my car. I was able to stop in time to not hit the bear, who I could see was tagged. After reading about the bear who was killed on 1-91 last week, I'm glad this bear was not hurt.

I'm with Wyatt - I think there are more reported sightings in Farmington and Avon because more people REPORT them! Just last night we saw 2 bears in West Hartland - one small bear on the way to my parents' house and one big one in their backyard. But we've got a bigger one (also 2 smaller ones) who are regulars around our house in (far west) Granby. But who are you going to call? As my mom said, our neighborhoods are where they "deport" the suburban bears TO!
