From the Department of Transportation
Oakwood Avenue will be closed to traffic between Caya Avenue and Kane Street from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, and Wednesday, Oct. 23, according to a release from the Department of Transportation. The closure is required to complete the structural steel installation on the bridge.
The work is part of a project for the rehabilitation of the bridge over Interstate 84, located between Exit 43, Park Avenue interchange, and Exit 44, Caya Avenue and Prospect Avenue interchange.
The project work consists of total replacement of the structural steel beams and girders, bridge deck and parapets. The bridge height will be raised to add clearance over I-84 requiring reconstruction of the approach areas to the bridge including intersections.
Traffic will be detoured using St. James Street, South Quaker Lane and St. Augustine Street. St. Charles Street will be closed; residents will be advised to use South Quaker Lane. Detour signs will be posted to assist motorists through the area.
Alternating one way traffic using temporary signals will be permitted when Oakwood Avenue is not closed.
DOT Project No. 0155-0164 was awarded to Northern Construction Services, LLC of Palmer, MA on October 24, 2012 at a cost of $3,297,972.50 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2014.
