Segments of Flatbush Avenue in West Hartford to Be Closed on Oct. 7

Access to I-84 Eastbound Flatbush Avenue ramp and Charter Oak Shopping Plaza are available via Newfield Avenue detour during 21-day construction period -

The following is a press release from the DOT

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced today that Flatbush Avenue in West Hartford and Hartford at the intersection with New Park Avenue will be closed due to construction for a 21-day period starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013.  Specifically, Flatbush Avenue will be closed east of New Park Avenue to Newfield Avenue and west of New Park Avenue to Ahern Street.  However, New Park Avenue will remain open to traffic throughout the construction period.

Motorists traveling on New Park Avenue wanting to access the I-84 Flatbush Avenue entrance ramp or Charter Oak Plaza will be detoured to New Britain Avenue then along Newfield Avenue.  Westbound motorists exiting the I-84 Flatbush Avenue Exit 45 will need to use the same detour to reach New Park Avenue.

Closure of this segment of Flatbush Avenue between New Park Avenue and Newfield Avenue on the West Hartford/Hartford line is required to complete the construction of the new Flatbush Avenue Bridge over the Amtrak rail line and CTfastrak guideway.  At the conclusion of this construction stage, all vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be transferred onto the new bridge.

Throughout the construction period, traffic on New Park Avenue will be maintained in both directions, with lane closures and traffic shifts used as necessary. No turns will be allowed from New Park Avenue onto eastbound or westbound Flatbush Avenue. Police will be stationed on New Park Avenue as necessary during these lane closures.

Motorists are encouraged to also use the I-84 Prospect Avenue Exit 44 as an alternative route to access New Park Avenue and other local roads and locations.
