Sunday Evening Storm Downs Trees in West Hartford

A fast-moving severe thunderstorm swept through West Hartford Sunday evening, knocking down trees and cutting power to nearly 1,500 C&LP customers, about 5 percent of the town.

Parts of town were pelted with hail and the downed trees and power lines forced road closures on Steele, Ledyard, and Whetten Rd., as well as other streets according to the Hartford Courant.

A transformer fire near Wolcott Park also cut power to a section of town.

By 10 p.m., power had been restored to all but 35 customers.

West Hartford residents will still need that electricity to power their fans and air conditioners for the next several days. Although temperatures may not reach the mod 90s, it will remain humid with daytime highs in the high 80s.
