Temporary Closure of New Britain Ave. Possible Overnight Sunday

Construction on the Amtrak/CTfastrak bridge will last for several weeks.

Work on the Amtrak/CTfastrak bridge that crosses New Britain Ave. on the eastern edge of Elmwood was scheduled to commence on Monday, June 10, and will result in lane closures during the evening and overnight hours.

A bulletin from CTfastrak states that the work is scheduled to last several weeks, and will take place between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 p.m.

According to a bulletin from CTfastrak, "the contractor may also close all lanes for a period not to exceed 10 minutes during the lifting operations. Any total closure will only occur between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 5:00 a.m."

The road closure will be due to removal of a steel girder from the existing Amtrak bridge.

At other times, according to CTfastrak, there will be lane closures but one travel lane in each direction will be maintained at all times.  Pedestrian and vehicle access to businesses and adjacent local roads in the area will also be maintained, according to the bulletin.
