Three Gentle Spirits Return To West Hartford

Three horses are now permanent fixtures at the Town Hall complex.

The bronze horses in Three Gentle Spirits are back in their natural habitat on the Memorial Road side of the Town Hall complex.

The horses were removed in early August to be recast; they were reinstalled on Aug. 29.

Artist Karen Petersen, members of the West Hartford Art League and town officials were on hand Thursday to dedicate the pieces to their now permanent home.

Petersen said that art in public places is critical to helping people find joy and to heal.

"Let's continue to help the West Hartford Art League with important projects," she said.

Mayor Scott Slifka noted the popularity of the three horses when people approached him to inquire where they went.

"It is gorgeous and now it has become a permanent fixture here," Slifka said.

Slifka and West Hartford Art League Executive Director Roxanne Stachelek both thanked the donors who helped convert the art from temporary to permanent.

"This is a special thing," Slifka said. "If it weren't for your efforts, it wouldn't be here."

The West Hartford Art League's ArtWalk also kicked off today, with 10 bus shelters painted in different ways. The ArtWalk will in full swing on Sunday.
