When it comes to golf in West Hartford, it seems that most people are well aware of on South Main Street. Meanwhile its sister course, on Buena Vista Road, has been living in its shadow.
That impression is about to change. According to Starter Gerry Aldrich of West Hartford, "There was a time when you couldn't put a tee in the ground," referring to the prior condition of the tee boxes at Buena Vista. "Now, look at it," he said, showing off conditions that are now on par with those at Rockledge and other area courses.
After completing a morning round, Ruth Crespi, who recently moved to West Hartford from Westchester County, New York, said, "Even as a beginner, you feel comfortable here." She should know; Crespi has only been playing the game for two weeks! Her game plan – try to play every day to improve – should prove easy to achieve at Buena Vista since it is a course suited for golfers of all ages and ability levels.
Buena Vista is a nine-hole golf course, owned by the town of West Hartford and maintained by the . Located across the street from , the "Short Course" measures 1653 yards (par 30) according to the score card. It is perfect for those who are in the learning phase of the game. For the more experienced golfer, the "Long Course" adds another 200+ yards.
