Connie Greenwood, faculty member at The Hartt School Community Division, will introduce children to the science of sound using instruments made of metals, skins and shakers to demonstrate how these elements can affect what we hear: vibration, pitch, and tone.
Children will explore sound and how it is produced by vibrating objects. Through the use of guitar, violin, autoharp and other stringed instruments, children will see how pitch can be altered by the rate of vibrations. Also, percussion instruments will demonstrate how sound is affected by the quality of the objects. Children of all ages will enjoy moving their bodies to the music that is created through the science of sound.
