Kingswood Oxford Presents 'To Kill a Mockingbird'

The creative arts department at Kingswood Oxford School will present "To Kill a Mockingbird" Thursday, Nov. 18 and Friday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the school's Roberts Theater.

The performances, which mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, tell the tale of coming of age in Alabama during the Great Depression.

KO creative arts teacher Lud Baldwin said he feels a personal link with the work. "I connected with this book and the movie back when I saw it in a theater with my mother – I was 12 – and then read the book, first for pleasure and much later because I had to teach it in Scotland six years ago," Baldwin said.

"It has a special resonance for me, as I traveled to a fully segregated Norfolk, Va., as a child, visiting my grandparents," he said. "The way the characters confront ignorance and immorality has always inspired me, and I have a cast that can handle the material with poise, confidence and the dignity it deserves."

The performances are free and open to the public. Those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the Foodshare.
